Concrete &
Foundations

The strength of every structure starts below grade. KD Excavating delivers code-compliant footings, slabs, and foundations built to last decades — not years.

The Service

What Is Concrete & Foundation Work?

A building is only as strong as the foundation it stands on. Whether it's a home, a garage, a retaining wall, or a commercial structure, the concrete and foundation work must be done correctly the first time — because fixing it later is exponentially more expensive. Settling, cracking, and water infiltration are almost always rooted in improper foundation construction.

KD Excavating brings the same precision to concrete work as we do to excavation. We manage the full process — from forming and reinforcing to pouring, finishing, and curing — ensuring every project meets or exceeds Ontario Building Code requirements. Our team works closely with your engineer and contractor to deliver foundations that perform for generations.

Our Process

How It Works

01
Engineering Review
We review your engineered drawings or work with your engineer to ensure the foundation design meets code and suits your site conditions.
02
Excavation & Forming
The area is excavated to the required depth, forms are set with precision, and rebar is installed per the engineering specifications.
03
Pour & Finish
Concrete is poured, consolidated, and finished to the required specification — flat, level, and properly cured for long-term performance.
04
Inspection & Handover
We coordinate any required inspections and hand over a foundation that's ready to build on — documented, compliant, and built to last.

FAQ

Frequently Asked

Do I need an engineer for my foundation?
For most new construction, yes — an engineered foundation drawing is required for permits. We work alongside your engineer or can refer you to trusted local professionals.
How long before I can build on the foundation?
Concrete reaches sufficient strength for construction in approximately 7 days under normal conditions, with full cure at 28 days. We advise on timing specific to your project and weather conditions.
What is ICF and should I use it?
ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) is a modern foundation system with superior insulation and structural strength compared to traditional poured walls. It costs slightly more but delivers significant energy savings over the life of the building.
